RATIONALE
This project and innovation aims to help parents earn additional income for their families especially in this time of pandemic and to utilize local and waste materials to establish an income-generating program where the net income is used to purchase food supplements for the malnourished children of the school.
III. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
General
a. To teach the parents the
production of mushroom for additional income-generation
especially during this time of the
pandemic where most of them are just staying in
their homes.
Specific
b. To purchase food supplements for
the malnourished pupils from the net income
raised from this income-generating
project and innovation.
IV. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Mushroom Production is an Income-Generating
Project of Patungcaleo Integrated School and the stakeholders include the
parents of the schoolchildren. The manager of this project proponent, Mr.
Marcelo P. Bal-iyang Jr., also supports the feeding program of the school.
V. MECHANICS AND IMPLEMENTATION
First,
meeting the parents and the scheduling of work,
Second,
preparation of tools and gathering of materials needed,
The
last activity will be the harvesting and selling of products which is scheduled
among members. Every sales will be submitted and recorded by the organization’s
treasurer to be finally distributed as the member’s individual share.
VI. EXPECTED OUTPUT
Ø
Production Capacity and Expected Outputs
Since this is a school project, the
proponent and the members aim to produce 500 mushroom fruiting bags with an
average daily production of 3 kilos a day for three consecutive months.
Ø
Projected Summary of Gross Sale of
Products
The average price of mushroom per
kilogram is Php200.00. The 500 fruiting bags is expected to approximately yield
270 kg. in three months which gives a total amount of Php 54,000.00

VIII. BUDGETARY REQUIREMENTS
The
source of capital can be sourced from the individual generous donors as additional
aid to the personal fund of the proponent. There is no problem with regards to
the sourcing the materials needed because all the needed materials are
available in the locality. These include the rice straw, firewood, and bamboo. The
table below summarizes the items needed in the production which the parent
donors can help fund this mushroom growing production enterprise. The initial
capital needed is Php8,340.00 only.

Project Location – Patungcaleo
Integrated School Warehouse
Ø
Production capacity and expected
outputs – 500 fruiting bags to produce oyster mushrooms
Ø Technical Production Process – The
following details the technical production process in raising oyster mushrooms.
1) Inoculation
Oyster mushroom spawn
is mixed with the substrate material (often straw or sawdust, but a range of
other materials can also be used. This growing medium is then usually placed
into bags with small holes or air filters in them for air exchange.
2) Incubation
The bags are then
placed in a warm (20-24C/68F-75F) dark room to incubate and begin the first
phase of growth. Only 10-14 days are needed for the spawn to grow a full web of
root-like threads of mycelium and colonise the growing substrate. Oyster
mushroom mycelium colonising straw & coffee ground substrate.
3) Fruiting
Once the growing medium
is fully colonised by the spawn, it is time for the mushrooms to start
fruiting. The bags are exposed to autumn-like conditions with fresh oxygen,
high humidity, low level light and often cooler temperatures. This signals to
the mycelium that it’s time to start producing mushrooms and small pins begin
to emerge. Oyster mushroom pins begin to
emerge from holes in the bag. Fed by water and nutrients from the mycelium,
these tiny pins then rapidly grow and develop into full size mushrooms in just
5-7 days.
Oysters mushrooms,
ready to harvest just 7 days after starting to grow out of the bag. A crop of
mushrooms can be harvested three times before the mycelium becomes exhausted,
with a new crop of mushrooms manifesting every 7-14 days during this
time. It takes about just 5-8 weeks to grow 3 crops of oyster mushrooms
and all this can be done with minimal equipment or expertise.

X. MONITORING AND EVALUATION
Since the projected income from this project is PhP54,000 every three
months, this can be used as a good way to monitor and evaluate the performance
of this project. That projection can be
used as the quota and the performance of the project can be based on how much
percentage of the quota has been reached by the project for a three-month
period – and so on and so forth.
The goal of the monitoring is to ensure that the quota is reached at a
satisfactory level every harvest time.
If the performance is exemplary, then the head of the project can find
ways to increase production and output to increase income.
