Details:
1) Digging a trench
It takes 6 days to get the digging equipment on
to site. A 50 metre length of trench can be dug each day.
2) Laying the sections of pipeline.
It takes 7 days to get the pipes and the laying
equipment on to site. 40 metres of pipeline can be placed in a day and the work
must not encroach nearer than 150 metres on the team digging the trench.
3) Welding the sections of pipeline.
It takes 3days to get the welding equipment on
site. 100metre of pipeline can be welded in a day but this work must not
encroach nearer than 100metre on the team laying the pipeline.
4) Inspection/test of pipeline sections.
It takes 4days to get the inspection/test
equipment on site. 125metres of pipeline can be inspected/tested in a day and
this work must not encroach nearer than 125metres on the team welding the
pipeline.
5) Filling in the trench.
It takes 4 days to get the equipment on site. 200metres of the trench can be
filled in a day and this work must not encroach nearer than 100 metres on the
team inspecting/testing the pipeline.

The above presentation illustrates the critical paths for
the above activities. A very important quantitative took for planning an
activity or series of activities is the project analysis. The manager of a project that requires the
completion of a number of separate activities, the activities must be performed
in some specific sequences, some activities must be finish first before some
activities can start, must carefully plan the task in order that the project be
completed within either a specific time limit of budget time.
